The mission of the Youth Band is as follows:

As all parts of the liturgy of the Mass serve the purpose of calling the Church closer to Christ, we as a music ministry for the Sunday evening Mass commit ourselves to creating an atmosphere conducive to worshiping the Lord fully and openly, and especially through being aware of the Holy Spirit’s presence and constant work in us. We hope to convey both the message of the love and peace of Jesus Christ, and excitement of the call to active participation that he issues us by inviting us to partake in the celebration of the Eucharistic Feast.

The main means of achieving our goal is music, most of which is contemporary and high-energy praise and worship music. A majority of the music that can be heard at the 5pm Mass can also be found easily from other sources, as it is part of the universal and ecumenical demeanor taken on by many of today’s youth movements and by both our late Holy Father, Pope John Paul II and his successor Pope Benedict XVI. Music speaks to the soul as a powerful implement of the Liturgy, so we strive to always make the music an exciting and engaging part of the Mass. This music is not necessarily to everyone’s liking, and even the youthfully intense attitude we adopt as worship leaders may not be everyone’s cup of tea. As a universal Church, there are parts of the liturgy such as music that are different to every region and even to each celebration within a single parish. We hope to provide one of the sources of the new energy and life that so many people have expressed a desire to find in the Liturgy most recently. We also hope to never estrange anyone from the Mass or make people feel that they are unwelcome. All who find this style of worship helpful to their participation in the Mass are welcome and encouraged to come.
